Best sushi I've ever had. A little pricey, but so worth it. It doesn't look like much from outside but inside is beautiful. The couple who runs the place is so nice. One chef prepares everything and he is a true master of his craft.
I’ve driven by this place countless times and I never stopped in because the outside is a little depressing looking but I decided to stop in for dinner today and I was pleasantly surprised at how great the meal was. Everything was very fresh and tasty and it has a cute family run vibe inside. I bet if they fixed up the look from the outside more people would stop in. I will defiantly be back.
Gari sushi is the best sushi spot in tacoma. The food is amazing and the people and service are wonderful. My wife and I come here atleast once every other week and it's good every time. 5 stars!

The Tsunami Salmon is an absolute must-try. I have had it more than 20 times. The flavors are fresh and delicious. Their udon is perfectly rich and comforting, and the seaweed salad is one of the best. Every dish is made with so much care, and you can taste the difference. What really makes Gari Sushi special, though, is the people. The owner and his sister run the place almost entirely on their own, and their dedication is unmatched. They treat every customer like family, making each visit feel personal and welcoming. This place deserves way more attention. If you’re in the area, don’t hesitate—Gari Sushi is a hidden gem that’s worth discovering. Once you try it, you’ll keep coming back. That's certainly what happened to me.
Unassuming place with really fresh sushi. Don’t expect a fancy ambiance, but if you just want good quality fresh sushi this is the place to go. On par with some of the best places in Seattle in terms of quality of ingredients. This is the place to go if you prefer nigiri and sashimi when you order. The rolls are good too but nothing extraordinary.
Lovely restaurant with a magical and quality Japanese authentic chef! :) Truely a diamond in the rough as far as Tacoma and restaurants go! The dinner was a elegant array of different dishes and fish, ask the chef for new things he's really creative and loves to do specialty requests! ;)
Sushi lovers rejoice!! You have to try Gari of Sushi at least once in your life. This place is the absolute best in Tacoma for all things sushi! The owner has won numerous awards throughout his life and has been featured on The News Tribune many times. I've tried many sushi places and, while some are very good, this is THE spot for the very best!! Yes the outside of the building looks antiquated, however, stepping inside, there is a much nicer ambiance with numerous booths and a sitting bar in front of the owner while he prepares his masterpieces. I've tried nearly all the rolls on the menu and everything is delicious. Honestly you can't go wrong choosing anything. Make the time and go to Gari of Sushi on 38th street in Tacoma and you have no regrets!
